APV Pneumatic Seeders and spreaders as mounted spreaders on soil tillage implements for cover crop application or reseeding

PRECISE SEED PLACEMENT.
COMBINE OPERATIONS.
SAVE TIME.

Cover crops, undersown crops, or grassland reseeding – with the Pneumatic Seeders (PS), you apply your seeds precisely and evenly.
Combine seeding with soil tillage and save additional passes, time, and fuel.

Fewer passes. Less time and fuel required. More precise use of your seeds.

With the Pneumatic Seeders (PS) from APV, you combine seeding and soil tillage in just one pass. The seed is precisely metered, pneumatically transported, and evenly distributed across the entire working width.

Whether cover crop, undersown crop, or grassland reseeding: different hopper sizes, seeding shafts, fans, control systems, and application options make the APV spreader a versatile solution for a wide range of operations and applications.

Perfect integration into your fleet

The PS series from APV can be mounted on all common soil tillage implements or added as a complete system via implement carrier, Front Frame, or Seed Frame.

Ideal for

cultivators, disc harrows, rollers, grassland levelers, seed drills, combine harvesters, weeders, potato planters, ridge ploughs, maize seeders, row crop cultivators, slurry tankers, and more.

Advantages of the APV pneumatic seeder (PS)

Precise metering. Even distribution.

Precision from hopper to ground

The heart of the APV system is the electrically controlled seeding shaft. It precisely meters the seed from the hopper into the air duct.

The airflow from the fan then transports it through the seed hoses. The dispersion plates distribute the seed evenly and close to the ground across the entire working width.

This close-to-ground distribution reduces the influence of wind and supports reliable seeding even under changing conditions.

How it works

Seed hopper → seeding shaft → airflow → seed hoses → dispersion plates → even distribution

More Information
APV Seeding Technology: Pneumatic spreaders, Pneumatic Seeders with 300 liters, suitable for mounting on soil tillage implements such as cultivators, disc harrows, harrows, weeders, and also harvesters for reseeding, cover crops, greening
One seeder. Countless possibilities.

Combine flexibly instead of needing a separate machine for every application
One of the greatest strengths of the Pneumatic Seeder (PS) is its versatility.

APV offers numerous combination options for:

Hopper sizes
120 | 200 | 300 | 500 | 800 | 1,100 | 1,600 liters

Seeding shafts
From fine seeds to seed mixtures and large seeds.

Fans
Electric fan | electric fan PLUS | hydraulic fan

Working widths
Up to 12 m depending on configuration, more with special system solutions.

Outlets
Depending on the PS and version, up to 16 or 32 direct outlets; distribution head systems allow up to 64 outlets.

Control systems
From simple basic control to ISOBUS with Section Control and Variable Rate Control.

This allows you to configure your Pneumatic Seeder to suit your operation, your machine, and your applications.

APV seeding shafts for various seeders and seed sizes or seed mixtures

Even distribution across the working width

After metering, the spreading material is pneumatically transported to the individual application points.

This allows the amount to be distributed precisely across the entire machine width.

Depending on the implement version and equipment, for example:

  • 8 outlets
  • 16 outlets
  • up to 32 outlets are possible on large PS models.

Flexible Seed Placement

Broadcast spreading or targeted placement

A Pneumatic Seeder is not limited to applying seed over a wide area via dispersion plates only.

Depending on the application, the seed can, for example:

be spread over a wide area via dispersion plates

or

be placed precisely via seed boots or distribution heads

.

This makes it possible to perform cover crop seeding, undersowing, or even targeted placement behind cultivator tines. Cereal, oilseed rape, and legume seeding are also possible applications with APV distribution head systems.

The seed can therefore, for example, be applied

  • in front of a roller
  • behind a roller
  • in front of soil tillage tools
  • behind cultivator tines
  • via dispersion plates
  • directly into seed boots
  • into a distribution head
    .

This makes the pneumatic spreader far more than a conventional spreader:
The metering stays the same – the type of placement is adapted to your application.

Automatically adjust to driving speed

With the appropriate control system and speed sensors, the spread rate is automatically adjusted to the actual driving speed.

Available for this include, among others:

  • GPSa sensor
  • radar sensor
  • wheel sensor
  • 7-pin signal cable

Additional sensors enable the seeding shaft to start and stop automatically when the implement is raised.

A fill level sensor provides early warning before the hopper runs empty, while fan speed can be monitored on hydraulic systems.

Multi-Season Use

The PS Fertilizer Edition does not have to be used exclusively for fertilizing.

Depending on the equipment, the following can be applied, among others:

  • Mineral fertilizer
  • Starter fertilizer
  • Micronutrients
  • Micro granulates
  • suitable crop protection granulates
  • Cover crops
  • Undersown crops
  • Reseeding
  • Grass
  • Seed mixtures
  • other suitable seeds

This allows the same implement to be used at multiple points throughout the growing season.

TWIN Concept

Two chambers - two seeding shafts - separately metered

With APV TWIN seeders, each hopper has two separate chambers and two independently running seeding shafts. This means that two different components can be metered independently of each other and applied in a single pass.

The TWIN concept is used exclusively on APV Pneumatic Seeders in the Fertilizer Edition. This means you benefit from the strengths of both worlds: a proven pneumatic spreader plus a fertilizer spreader for multi-season use.

APV seeding technology for fertiliser and micro granulates with split tank: Pneumatic fertiliser spreader TWIN

SMART TWIN Concept

Two chambers - split seeding shaft - precision farming

The SMART TWIN takes the TWIN principle further into the digital age.

Unlike the classic TWIN, the SMART TWIN is based on a split seeding shaft, allowing the left and right halves of the machine to be controlled separately via ISOBUS.

Advantages:

  • Section Control: automatic seeding shaft shutoff based on GPS position
  • Variable Rate Control: spread rate controlled based on an application map
  • Mechanical airflow adjustment per seed type
  • Automatic adjustment to field boundaries
  • Separate left/right control

The SMART TWIN concept is only available as a Fertilizer Edition. This means seed and fertilizer can be applied at any time thanks to specially corrosion-protected components.

The right fan for every application

The required air output depends primarily on:

  • working width, hose length
  • spreading material, particle size, and
  • spread rate per minute.

Depending on your requirements, you can choose between:

  • Electric fan
up to approx. 3.5 kg/min spread rate - no hydraulic connection required and low net weight
  • Electric fan PLUS
more than twice as powerful yet still compact
  • Hydraulic fan
for larger working widths, higher spread rates, and heavier seeds such as beans, peas, or wheat.

What fan output do I need?

Use the following formula to calculate your required spread rate in kg/min. The result

Working width (m) × speed (km/h) × seeding rate (kg/ha)
__________________________________
600

= required kg/min

Example:

(6 m working width × 10 km/h × 45 kg/ha) ÷ 600 = 4.5 kg/min

This means the required delivery rate exceeds that of the basic electric fan. In this example, for PS 200–500, the electric fan PLUS or hydraulic fan would be suitable. For further details on fan selection, including a clear recommendation table, see the current brochure.

For larger working widths or higher delivery rates, the more powerful electric fan PLUS can be used.

With suitable configuration, this enables working widths of up to approximately 12 m.

APV Pneumatic Seeders fan types: more powerful electric fan PLUS

Hydraulic fan

High air output for large quantities and working widths

For higher spread rates, large working widths, or heavier spreading materials, APV recommends the hydraulic fan.

Technical requirements:

  • maximum approx. 180 bar
  • maximum approx. 38 l/min oil flow
  • pressureless return required

For the large PS 800–1600 variants, the hydraulic fan is the key solution.

Precise metering starts with the right seeding shaft

Mustard behaves differently from grass during metering. Fine seeds have different requirements than cereals, peas, or seed mixtures.

That's why APV offers a wide selection of different seeding shafts.

Seeding shafts for typical applications such as mustard, phacelia, ramtil, and grass are already available as standard. Additional seeding shafts allow for adaptation to, for example:

  • Clover
  • Cress
  • Oil radish
  • Poppy
  • Oilseed rape
  • Gold-of-pleasure
  • Buckwheat
  • Vetch
  • Cereals
  • Lupin
  • Pea
  • Bean
  • Seed mixtures

Additional flex shafts are available for seed mixtures and large seeds.

What is an APV Pneumatic Seeder and what is it used for?

APV Pneumatic Seeders (PS) meter seeds via a seeding shaft and then transport them using an air stream to the dispersion plates, which distribute the seeds across the entire working width. Typical applications include the sowing of cover crops, undersown crops, and various seed mixtures – often directly during an already necessary work step.

What advantages does cover crop sowing with a Pneumatic Seeder offer?

With a Pneumatic Seeder, you can combine cover crop sowing directly with soil tillage. While, for example, a cultivator or disc harrow prepares the seedbed, the seeds are metered and distributed at the same time. This saves you an additional pass and thus working time and fuel. At the same time, the seeds can reach the freshly tilled soil immediately.

Which seeds can be spread with APV Pneumatic Seeders?

Depending on the seeding shaft and implement configuration, different seeds and seed mixtures can be metered. These include, in particular, cover crops as well as various fine and coarse-grained seeds. Crucial for precise metering is the selection of a seeding shaft that matches the particle size, flow behavior, and desired spread rate.

On which machines can an APV Pneumatic Seeder be mounted?

Pneumatic Seeders can be combined with various suitable implement carriers. Mounting on soil tillage implements such as cultivators or harrows is particularly interesting, as this allows soil tillage and sowing to be combined in one pass. The specific mounting option depends on the PS model, working width, and existing implement carrier.

What is the difference between a Pneumatic Seeder and a simple spreader?

In a Pneumatic Seeder, the seeds are first metered via a seeding shaft and then transported by an air stream through hoses to several dispersion plates. These distribute it across the working width. In contrast, a classic spreader distributes the spreading material directly via a rotating spreading disc, for example. The pneumatic system is particularly interesting when precise metering and uniform distribution over larger working widths are required.

Which APV Pneumatic Seeder fits my operation?

The appropriate PS version depends, among other things, on area size, working width, seeds, spread rate, implement carrier, and desired hopper volume. APV offers Pneumatic Seeders with different hopper sizes and fan variants. This allows the system to be adapted to different operational requirements.

Why are there different seeding shafts for the Pneumatic Seeders?

Seeds differ significantly in terms of particle size, shape, and flow behavior. Therefore, different seeding shafts are available for APV Pneumatic Seeders. With the seeding shaft that matches the seeds, the most precise metering possible can be achieved even with different seeds and spread rates.

How is the spread rate adjusted on a Pneumatic Seeder?

The desired seed quantity is set via the metering of the Pneumatic Seeder. In appropriately equipped systems, the metering can be adapted to the driving speed, so that the desired spread rate per hectare remains as constant as possible even at changing speeds.

Can I save work steps with a Pneumatic Seeder?

Yes. This is precisely one of the main advantages of the system. If the Pneumatic Seeder is mounted on a cultivator or a harrow, for example, soil tillage and sowing can take place in one pass. This reduces additional passes and thus saves time and fuel – at the same time, the soil is driven over less frequently.

Why is APV specialized in Pneumatic Seeders?

Pneumatic Seeders are among the core products of APV. The company develops this technology specifically for the flexible combination of sowing with existing work steps and has already deployed more than 57,000 Pneumatic Seeders worldwide (as of 2025). The many years of specialization flow into metering, distribution, operation, and the various configuration options of the PS series.

Das Problem

Sowing cover crops or undersown crops often means an additional work step. This costs time and fuel, causes machine hours, and every further pass puts a strain on the soil.

At the same time, high-quality seed is a valuable resource. Inaccurate metering or uneven distribution can lead to unnecessarily large amounts of seed being used or the crop developing unevenly.

At the same time, fertilizer and corrosive micro granulates in particular place high demands on the technology used.

Die Lösung

With a Pneumatic Seeder (PS), you integrate sowing directly into an already necessary work step.

The pneumatic spreader is mounted, for example, on a cultivator, a disc harrow, a weeder, or another implement. During soil tillage, the seeds are precisely metered and evenly distributed over the entire working width.

In this way, you reduce additional passes and thus working time, implement wear, soil compaction, and fuel consumption. At the same time, the precise metering enables efficient use of your seeds.
